Nick Shoulders at The Vanguard - OK

Nick Shoulders brings a jagged, welcoming kind of country music to The Vanguard in Tulsa, Oklahoma on November 21, 2026 at 8:00 PM. His sound is described as a hybridized form of raucous country music, and that alone gives this night a strong pull: it promises traditional roots with enough grit and personality to keep every phrase feeling alive. For listeners who like their roots music raw, off-center, and emotionally direct, this is the kind of concert that can hold attention from the first note.

What makes Shoulders especially compelling is the way his background and voice shape the music. He combines his family's deep ties to southern traditional music with years singing to empty street corners, and that lived-in experience shows up in the sound he has built. Refugia Blues, his fifth album, stays rooted in the acoustic stylings of Southern traditional music while his singing blends country croon, Appalachian yodel, and high-lonesome field holler. It is a striking combination, and it gives his songs a texture that feels both familiar and sharply individual.

The record also reaches into bigger ideas, with songs about climate collapse, radical anthropology, and generative disruption. That mix of musical tradition and unusual subject matter is exactly why this performance stands out within local concert listings: it offers something thoughtful, rugged, and a little unpredictable without losing the warmth of classic country forms. If that balance sounds appealing, explore the ticket listings for Nick Shoulders at The Vanguard and see how this date fits your plans.
