A Tulsa drive-in with a long history

Admiral Twin opened in 1951, with a second screen added the following year. It became part of Tulsa’s movie history both as a place to watch films and as a filming location for The Outsiders.

A fire destroyed the screen structure in 2010. The drive-in returned in 2012 with a rebuilt steel structure. The archival photo above shows an earlier era, not the current screen or a promise of today’s movie lineup.

Choose a screening before you leave

The official website lists films, dates and start times. Check your intended date rather than assuming a film appearing on the homepage plays every night. The current operating notice says weekends only: Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The usual arrangement is a double feature on one side, with one admission covering the two films on that side. Choose the pairing you want and read the screening listing before buying. Admission to a double feature does not mean you can treat both sides as interchangeable.

The FAQ describes the normal season as March through October. That is useful for planning a trip, but the live calendar is what matters for a specific night.

Tickets and vehicle entry

Use the official screening link for tickets and check the current admission categories there. Don’t rely on an old photo of the marquee for prices or a start time.

Gates generally open about an hour before the first posted showtime. Allow time to get through the entrance, park and sort out your audio before the film starts. The operator says any box-office lane can access any movie, so use the next available lane unless staff direct you otherwise.

Follow the parking instructions for your vehicle and chosen screen side. The box office is a one-way entrance; the operator directs departing vehicles toward the street rather than back through the ticket lanes.

How the movie sound works

The sound comes through FM radio. Each screen has its own station, supplied when you enter. Tune to the station for your side and test the volume before the movie begins.

You can use a car radio or bring a portable FM radio. Check that your device actually receives broadcast FM; a phone’s streaming app is not the same thing. A charged portable radio can be a useful backup if you don’t want to rely on the car battery.

Learn your vehicle’s accessory and light settings in advance. That is easier to sort out before arriving than while a film is starting. Ask staff if you’re unsure where to park or how to avoid shining lights toward the screen.

Concessions, comfort and weather

The drive-in has on-site concessions and restrooms. Check its current policies before packing outside food or planning to cook beside your vehicle; don’t assume that rules at another drive-in apply here.

Bring clothing suitable for an outdoor evening, especially if you plan to sit outside the car. A blanket and a working radio are more useful than arriving with a complicated setup that blocks another viewer’s sightline.

The FAQ says rain alone does not always cancel a screening, but inclement weather can cause a closure. Check official updates before leaving. When the theater closes, the operator says online ticket purchases are automatically refunded.

Make it your evening plan

A double feature can occupy much of the evening. Eat beforehand or allow time for concessions, and choose your next morning’s plans accordingly if you intend to stay for both films.

For a different night out, Tulsa has live music and performing arts. Keep those plans separate from drive-in admission: this site’s event calendar is for exploring Tulsa events, while Admiral Twin’s own website is the source for its movie tickets.
