Tulsa Ballet: The Nutcracker

Tulsa Ballet: The Nutcracker at Chapman Music Hall at Tulsa Performing Arts Center

A Christmas Eve story, a classic score, and a polished stage picture give Tulsa Ballet: The Nutcracker a natural seasonal pull at Chapman Music Hall at Tulsa Performing Arts Center on Saturday, December 12, 2026 at 7:00 PM. The ballet follows young Marie through 19th-century Germany, where the Nutcracker Prince, the Mouse King, and the Sugarplum Fairy help shape a world that is easy to recognize and pleasant to revisit. It is the kind of December event that invites attention through story as much as spectacle.

Part of the appeal lies in how Tulsa Ballet approaches the material. The company describes its artistic roots as blending classical dance with dramatic theatre, which suits a work built on movement, character, and visual storytelling. Choreography by Val Caniparoli and Ma Cong adds another reason to take interest, especially for audiences who like seeing a familiar title shaped by distinct creative voices. Instead of treating the ballet as a simple holiday tradition, this production gives it a clear theatrical identity that can speak to both ballet regulars and people who mostly come for the season.

For anyone exploring theatre shows in Tulsa, this performance offers a strong mix of accessibility and craft. The story is familiar enough to follow easily, yet its central characters and romantic holiday setting still carry plenty of stage appeal. Tulsa Ballet also notes that it is regarded as one of the top ballet companies in North America, adding extra weight for anyone choosing a December outing with established artistic standing.
