Tulsa Ballet: The Nutcracker

Tulsa Ballet: The Nutcracker at Chapman Music Hall at Tulsa Performing Arts Center

A winter stage full of clear characters and graceful movement gives Tulsa Ballet: The Nutcracker an immediate pull. At Chapman Music Hall at Tulsa Performing Arts Center on Sunday, December 20, 2026 at 6:00 PM, the company brings one of the most recognizable holiday ballets into stage performances across Tulsa with a setting that invites both first-timers and longtime ballet followers to settle in and enjoy the storytelling.

The story follows young Marie on Christmas Eve in 19th-century Germany, where the Nutcracker Prince, the Mouse King, and the Sugarplum Fairy shape the evening's dramatic sweep. That familiar framework is part of what makes the work so appealing: the narrative is easy to follow, yet the ballet still leaves plenty of room for atmosphere, character, and movement to do the heavy lifting. If you enjoy performances that communicate through gesture and design as much as through plot, this title has a lot to offer.

Tulsa Ballet's own artistic identity adds another layer of interest. The company describes its roots as blending classical dance with dramatic theatre, and the production is choreographed by Val Caniparoli and Ma Cong. That combination suggests a staging shaped with both technical discipline and theatrical clarity, which is exactly the kind of approach that can keep a well-known classic feeling vivid. The company also says it is regarded as one of the top ballet companies in North America, a sign of the artistic standard behind the presentation.

For audiences looking for a seasonal evening that pairs tradition with a strong company profile, this is an easy one to consider. Browse the ticket listings for Tulsa Ballet: The Nutcracker and see how it fits your December plans.
