Tulsa Ballet: The Nutcracker

Tulsa Ballet: The Nutcracker at Chapman Music Hall at Tulsa Performing Arts Center

A Christmas story told through movement has a special kind of pull, and Tulsa Ballet: The Nutcracker leans into that appeal with classic holiday atmosphere and clear dramatic shape. At Chapman Music Hall at Tulsa Performing Arts Center on Sunday, December 20, 2026, at 1:00 PM, the ballet follows young Marie on Christmas Eve in 19th-century Germany as the Nutcracker Prince, the Mouse King, and the Sugarplum Fairy come into view. It is a familiar tale, but one that keeps inviting audiences back because it balances wonder, character, and visual storytelling so naturally.

Part of what gives this production its identity is Tulsa Ballet's own artistic approach. The company describes its roots as blending classical dance with dramatic theatre, a pairing that suits a work where expression matters as much as technique. Choreography by Val Caniparoli and Ma Cong gives the title a distinct frame, helping this production feel shaped with intention rather than simply presented as a holiday staple. That makes it appealing for ballet regulars who want to see how a trusted company handles a beloved work, and for first-time viewers who want a story they can follow without needing any prior homework.

Tulsa Ballet also says it is regarded as one of the top ballet companies in North America, which adds a strong sense of artistic confidence to the occasion. For anyone browsing theatre performances in Tulsa, this is a straightforward seasonal choice with beauty, narrative clarity, and a recognizably festive setting.
