Les Miserables

Les Miserables at Williams Theatre at Tulsa Performing Arts Center

Les Misérables has a special kind of pull when it is staged in a room as intimate as Williams Theatre at Tulsa Performing Arts Center. Theatre Tulsa presents the musical in Tulsa theatre on January 17, 2027 at 2:00 PM, giving a winter afternoon a story that feels both sweeping and close at hand.

Based on Victor Hugo's novel, this 19th-century redemption story follows Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert through questions of justice, mercy, and pursuit. That emotional clarity is a big part of its appeal: even people who know the title can still be drawn in by the human stakes, the moral pressure, and the way the narrative keeps moving. With music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, and a book by Alain Boublil and Schönberg, the musical carries the scale and recognition that have made it a landmark of the stage.

The production also reflects Theatre Tulsa's place in the city's arts scene. It appears in the company's Broadway Series and locally produced musical lineup, presented by Oklahoma's largest and longest-running non-profit theatre company. That local context gives the event a distinct Tulsa identity while still connecting audiences to one of the most familiar titles in musical theatre. For theatergoers who like classic material that still feels urgent, this is an inviting way to spend the afternoon.
